To help him track the time and to try and minimize the "are they here, yet" queries, I created a calendar for him to put stickers on every day to track the number of sleeps before Gran and Grump would arrive. On Saturday, we finally placed the last sticker and Jamie wanted to leave for the airport right away.
Since we still had a few hours to kill before their plane arrived, we decided to bake a cake for Gran. We'd missed her birthday a few days before and Jamie wanted to blow out candles and sing. So, to do that we needed a cake.
After the cake was out of the oven, we headed out for the airport. It was pretty darn hot, but Jamie refused to wait inside. He wanted to be out by the fence where we could see them come off the plane. Once they were off the plane, we went inside to give Gran and Grump great big hugs.
We got Gran and Grump to the hotel to drop their luggage and unwind a bit. That afternoon they came to the house and got busy. We put Jamie's train table together and he spent a great deal of time showing Gran and Grump all his toys. After dinner, we got to give Gran her cake. She was very excited that Jamie had helped make it and Jamie was very excited to help blow out the candles. After dinner and cake, we headed outside to take advantage of the cooler temperatures. (Note, I said "cooler" not cool.) Jamie managed to convince Gran that she ought to get on the trampoline with him. As soon as I get the video from Ian, I'll update, but in the meantime here are a few pictures of Gran and Jamie on the trampoline.

That is so precious. I'm sure your parents were just thrilled - that Jamie's reaction was worth the long flight, jet lag and so on. Have a wonderful time with your parents, and happy new year!
ReplyDeleteAdorable!! It's wonderful that he was so excited, and the cake looks like a marvelous hit! I'm impressed that your mom managed to get on the trampoline within 24 hours of touching down -- that's quite something to do on so little sleep! I'm glad you're all having a wonderful time. :)
ReplyDeleteToo cute! Glad your parents are able to visit. Must be tough for Jamie missing his Gram & Grump! (and you too!) Hokie Cat has settled in nicely and is even seeking attention from Adam on occasion!
ReplyDeleteKeep posting pictures! And I definitely want to see that video!
What a special post and such wonderful photos. I'm glad that Ken and Suzy could visit and that Jamie is happy to see them. Hope everyone has a wonderful time.
