Bradshaw Sports Day 2012

It is a tradition at all of the schools in Alice Springs (and probably Australia) to host a Sports Day at the end of second term (its way too hot to do at the end of the year).  Every school divides the students into houses at the beginning of the year (think Harry Potter) and Jamie was assigned to Lasseter and his house colour was yellow.

So, for sports day I bought him a yellow shirt (which you can't see under the jumper) and we went to his school.  The pre-school did their own round of activities called the Nursery Rhyme Olympics.  For every activity they completed they got a sticker.

Jamie especially liked Jack Be Nimble:

He also really liked Diddle Diddle Dumpling

Of course, Jamie had to immediately find Mrs. Reu to tell her that the socks didn't really match.  Leave it to my kid to be that particular.

After the Nursery Rhyme Olympics, we took all the kids to big school for a running race.  The winner of each race won points for their house toward the Sports Day Trophy.

Happy Birthday Gavin & Braden

Today we celebrated Gavin & Braden's 2nd Birthday with a Cat in the Hat themed party at the Rec House.  We were so fortunate to have so many friends come to celebrate with us.  Once again, I need to thank my very good friend, Amiebeth, for all their help.  Not only did Amie make the delicious cake, but she and her mother spent a couple of hours with me this morning to help me decorate.

We had so much fun making all the decorations from the Lorax Trees to the finger puppets.

Finke 2012

Last year, we were very tame when it came to Finke and only went Saturday morning to the Start/Finish line to watch the Prologue (time trials).  There is a more detailed description of the race on last year's post.  This year we decided the boys were a bit older, so we could venture a bit farther a field.  Our neighbours join with her parents and friends and camp the entire weekend, we still weren't adventurous enough to tackle camping, but we did get up at 6AM to drive 30km out of town to their campsite.  Considering it was -1C I considered that a smart move.

Their campsite was so close the track that we put up some tape to remind the kids to stay back.  More injuries at Finke occur when spectators get hit by vehicles that overshoot turns, so we wanted to safe.

The winter in Alice Springs is full of many activities and this day was no exception.  On our way home from Finke we stopped at the Road Transport Hall of Fame to see a special guest that was in town just for a few hours.

Jamie's 4th Birthday Party

Last Sunday, we celebrated Jamie's 4th Birthday by inviting some boys from school and a few other friends.  We were able to borrow a bounce castle from the Rec Association and that kept the boys entertained for the better part of the morning.
