When I first announced that I was going to do this blog, I was asked to write a post as to why a Blog vice keeping it all on Facebook. The simplest answer is most of Ian's and my family members are not on Facebook. We found ourselves writing updates on Facebook, sending emails to family members, posting pictures on our online album. Frankly, we simply didn't have the time to maintain all those different methods of communication. Our former nanny, Michelle, (who we miss dearly!!!!) asked one day in an email if I was going to do a blog. And, that night McCainiaks Down Under was born.
Of course, if I'm going to be completely honest, I have to add that I like to talk and tell stories too much. Facebook doesn't really give me the outlet to ramble on as much as I am wont to do. And, I don't have time (and am sure you all don't want the constant emails) to update everyone individually.
One more confession. I need comments!!! Please let me know once in a while that you've stopped by and read a little about our adventure. If you really want to make my day, you can become a Follower, but that might be overkill. :) I'd love to have the comments and everything here on the blog, so I can have the full trail of the story that is Alice Springs.
On a completely unrelated note, I'd like to give a shout-out to a blog that I read and enjoy. Glennon is an amazing writer and extremely thought-provoking. I don't always agree with everything that she says, but she is always respectful and inclusive. I am proud to be a Monkee and am grateful for the support that this amazing group gave me as I struggled with bedrest and babies in a NICU. Last week, she wrote an essay about bullying. I think I need to follow her example and write letters to my children. This
essay is probably the one that has moved me most out of all of them that I have read in the past year. And, that includes the one she wrote just for
me.
On a lighter note, today (October 21) is Braden and Gavin's 4-month birthday. I truly cannot believe that 120 days have passed and all that has transpired in such a short period of time. I'm including a few of the pictures I took of them today. Jamie had such a ball helping pose the babies and making sure they had their signs. Look for Puff in the background. Remember the Bearded Dragon, I mentioned in the past? Well, apparently he has followed us to our new digs. I've nicknamed him Puff, because, well, he is a dragon and he puffs out his neck. :)

I'd be happy to oblige and post a coment! Hard to believe the twins are already 4 months old - they look wonderful and happy. Wish the weather here was still warm enough to sprawl on a blanket in the yard. But the leaves changing and crisp air is pretty nice. Jamie looks like an eager big brother and that he's having a good time down there. Are you in your new home yet? Miss you all and can't wait to skype again soon. Can we try for tonight (Friday morning for you) or tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteHI McCainiaks, We are glad all is well down under and we enjoy your blog. It is halloween time, and everyone is putting up their decorations, even your renters have joined in and decorated your front yard. (I will send you a picture of it.)
ReplyDeleteThe Halloween Booing has started in the neighborhood. So we would like to send out a virtual Boo to the boys. BOOOOO!!!
William is learning to ride his bike without training wheels and is almost there. He rides past your house (here in the states) and asks when is Jamie coming home. We will have to set up another Skype time soon.
Hope you enjoy the Spring weather as we are starting to dread the cold dark nights.
Love the blog! I have it set-up in my google reader which I check everyday.
ReplyDeleteAll three kids are growing up so fast. The twins are no longer little infants, but chunky babies -- I love it!
All is well here. Craig and I are barely surviving another Fall semester. Teaching, meetings, deadlines - ugh.
Mack loves her school now. All the kids in her class are settling in and getting used to the classroom routines. They also do a ton of fun activities. This week firefighters visited, ponies and farm animals, and tomorrow they go to Toy Story 3 on Ice. If only work was this much fun.
Just know that I am always reading and watching you.....spooky!
Take care my friend. Love to all the McCain's.
Love the blog Heather. I enjoyed the essay by Glennon. Thank you for sharing that... I loved her perspective on acceptance. We should all be more accepting - and as she said, celebrate each other. I should take a shot at writing to my daughters... I think you've inspired me!
ReplyDeleteWell done, Heather. Great photos Happy birthday to Braden and Gavin. I wish I could be there to hold them and feed them again. They, all three actually, are so beautiful. I didn't think we could really be any further away before, but now?? However, I'll hopefully have skype and my new webcamera up and running early next week, so perhaps i can see you all and we can talk and see each other. The magic of the digital age.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed reading your commentary about Alice and the surrounds, especially the Ghan and the camels. Obviously, you know that the cool weather will dimish and it will be hot! But there will not be the humidity so you may find it really not so bad. That's what I like about the Southwest.
Yes, I agree, this blog is by far the best way to communicate with all of us, especially with your three charges and no assistance during the day.
Nice to hear that Ian was appreciated at the volleyball tournament. I hope the sore muscles and legs plus back recover very soon if not already. Enough for now,
I remain, sky one of the two very proud grandfathers.
Great pics! Jamie is such a great helper! Do they celebrate Halloween in Austrailia? We are gearing up for Guido's big party next week...I'm sure some photos will make it to Facebook!
ReplyDeleteHokie tailgates have been going strong so far this year....too many early games thought...Wendy's burgers have only been served once and we have another noon game this weekend - so bloody mary's and breakfast again!
Keep up the good work on the blog!
Thank you Heather I love to read all bout your little adventures. I can't believe it, 4 months old...only seems like yesterday we were sending you congrars! on their arrival. I have a feeling we are going to get to love reading "The Adventures of Jamie and Puff Downunder"
ReplyDeleteHello darling coz,
